AMMPE World condemns Milei’s attacks on the Argentine press
In a public statement, the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World) strongly condemns the attacks by the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, and his inner circle against the press, particularly on social media, where harassment has intensified. In particular, the misogynistic attacks directed at women journalists reveal a clear pattern of discrediting those who exercise critical voices.
"We also express our rejection of the aggression suffered by journalists while covering demonstrations and social protests. We choose not to mention specific names, not only for safety reasons, but also because many of the affected colleagues are not publicly recognized figures — and it is essential not to render invisible those who, from various spaces, uphold the right to report.
"These acts are not only attacks on freedom of expression, but attempts to silence voices that are essential to democracy. The defense of journalism and respect for those who practice it are fundamental to the strengthening of our society", AMMPE stated.
