Instituto Guatemalteco Americano honors María Eugenia Gordillo, member of AMMPE Guatemala
María Eugenia Gordillo, a member of AMMPE Guatemala for more than 40 years, received a tribute from the Guatemalan American Institute on Monday, January 22, in recognition of her distinguished work as a journalist and cultural manager in Guatemala.
María Eugenia Gordillo has promoted art and culture for more than 45 years and was director of the National Newspaper Library for more than 30 years, having participated in national and international newspapers.
As a teenager, she wrote columns and texts for the school newspaper, being a perfectionist in her description when referring to sports, social events and the editorial part. Later, she entered the world of journalism through the "Escuela Centroamericana de Periodismo", being the first sports reporter in the country, as well as participating in cultural programs on radio and television.
She has also been in charge of Press and Public Relations of the Institute of Anthropology and History for more than 40 years.
She has received many awards and tributes. The most significant was receiving "La Orden del Quetzal" awarded by the President of the Republic of Guatemala.
Several members of AMMPE Guatemala were present at this important activity. "For AMMPE Guatemala it is an honor and a privilege to have María Eugenia Gordillo in our ranks," said the president of the national chapter, Ana María Sánchez Latour.
