AMMPE organizes talk highlighting the importance of verifying data

The digital research work carried out by the international agency AFP to verify data was the subject of the virtual talk organized by the World Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE World), on November 16. This event is part of the preparation for the international congress to be held in Punta Arenas in September 2024.

AFP, the world's oldest news agency, has 2,400 professionals in 151 countries. In 2017 it developed AFP Factual, an information verification service that has spread around the world.

During the talk, Elodie Martinez, an AFP journalist who coordinates from Paris the development of digital research training in the world, presented on the challenges presented by factual verification, the partnerships AFP has formed with Meta, TikTok and Google News Initiative to combat disinformation and the training courses for journalists and journalism students that it provides free of charge. Elodie Martinez's presentation was followed by questions from the audience, some of whom participated from Canada, Spain and Chile.
