AMMPE discusses “turquoise diplomacy” and lines of cooperation with the director of Chile’s Diplomatic Academy
Santiago, Chile. 2022 has been declared the year for «turquoise foreign policy», in which Chile has had an active participation in multilateral and bilateral forums.
This was one of the topics addressed by the Worldwide Association of Women Journalists and Writers (AMMPE) with the director of the Diplomatic Academy of Chile, María del Carmen Domínguez.
The meeting was attended by the president of AMMPE, Elia Simeone, together with Graciela Ibáñez and Eliana Jiménez de la Jara.
Ambassador Domínguez, a career diplomat, is the first woman to assume the direction of the Diplomatic Academy of Chile «Andrés Bello», and has played an important role in the construction of «turquoise diplomacy». The name it is given derives from the blue of the oceans and from the green of terrestrial biodiversity, in a marked accent from protect the ecosystem.
She highlighted Chile’s role in promoting environmental governance rules.
AMMPE informed Ambassador Dominguez that at the last World Congress in Rome it was stated that, in a globalized world, although with different nuances, the problems affect us in the same way and that this obliges women communicators to establish international links to face these challenges together.
Thus, one of the topics discussed with Ambassador Dominguez was climate change and the concern about the impact this phenomenon is having on communities and, in particular, on women, in the understanding that this is a common concern on which the Chilean Foreign Ministry and AMMPE can collaborate.
